Google Is Search Leader in July

Not much of a surprise, but Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) was again the leader in the U.S. search market in July by a wide margin, according to comScore's latest monthly analysis of the U.S. search marketplace.

Google sites had a 66.8% market share in July, followed by Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) sites with 15.7% and Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ: YHOO) sites with 13.0%. The market share of Google and Yahoo! remained unchanged from June, while that of Microsoft inched up 0.1%.

Explicit core searches, which excludes contextually driven searches that do not reflect specific user intent to interact with the search results, rose 3% in July to 17.7 billion. Google sites saw 11.8 billion of those searches, which was also up 3%. Searches of Microsoft sites rose 4% to 2.8 billion searches, followed by Yahoo! sites up 3% to with 2.3 billion searches.

comScore's monthly survey of the search marketplace captures the search behavior at almost 200 search properties in 41 individual countries and worldwide, measuring the full breadth and depth of consumer search activity.
