ExxonMobil Increases Sales but Misses Estimates on Earnings

ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM) reported earnings on July 26. Here are the numbers you need to know.

EPS details
EPS came in at $1.80. The 15 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $1.96 per share. GAAP EPS of $3.41 for Q2 were 56% higher than the prior-year quarter's $2.18 per share.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 30.7%, 140 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 21.9%, 900 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 13.3%, 380 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $121.69 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $1.82.

Next year's average estimate for revenue is $501.08 billion. The average EPS estimate is $7.60.
