Cenovus Energy Increases Sales but Misses Estimates on Earnings

Cenovus Energy (NYS: CVE) reported earnings on May 1. Here are the numbers you need to know.

EPS details
EPS came in at $0.46. The 14 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ averaged $0.52 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.56 for Q1 were much higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.06 per share.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 23.2%, 30 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 13.9%, 1,020 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 9.3%, 800 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $3.96 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.56.

Next year's average estimate for revenue is $16.59 billion. The average EPS estimate is $2.14.
