NextEra Energy (NYS: NEE) reported earnings on April 25. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended March 31 (Q1), NextEra Energy beat slightly on revenues and beat expectations on earnings per share.

Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue increased and GAAP earnings per share increased significantly.

EPS details
Non-GAAP EPS came in at $1.02. The 13 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $0.98 per share on the same basis. GAAP EPS of $1.11 for Q1 were 73% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.64 per share.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 41.9%, 880 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 25.0%, 1,130 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 13.7%, 510 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $3.83 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $1.15.

Next year's average estimate for revenue is $15.48 billion. The average EPS estimate is $4.52.
