Now you can listen to ngmoco's Ben Cousins on the death of consoles
Before you dismiss this as another mobile gaming shill's death knells for gaming consoles, just give it a listen ... if you have 26 minutes. During last week's Game Developers Conference (GDC), ngmoco Sweden's Ben Cousins all but called the death of gaming consoles an inevitability. Now, the studio head has uploaded his talk, complete with slides, to support his prophecy.
According to Kotaku's Stephen Totilo, it was the most provocative talk of GDC. Along the way in his 26 minute-long talk, he raises some good points, like the fact that game sales on consoles are in a slump as smartphones and tablets become stronger every year. (He also likens the decline of game consoles to how movie theaters dropped when TVs rose in the 1950s.)
Even if you don't agree, it's well worth a listen on your lunch break or when you finally get home, if only to get a better idea of why game publishers and developers alike are so bullish on mobile these days. Look at it this way: If the guy ends up being right, then at least you can say that you saw it coming from a mile away.
