The New iPad
It looks like mobile gaming's victory over the consoles is here, and it's called the iPad. Apple just unveiled the third iteration of its best-selling tablet, named simply "iPad". While it sports Apple's famous Retina Display with 2,048 by 1,536 resolution, it's what's under the hood that has some game makers already drooling over the gadget slated to hit stores March 16.

Gears of War and Unreal Engine creator Epic Games is ahead of the curve already, with a brand new game in the works for the brand new iPad, Infinity Blade Dungeons. However, what Epic Games president Mike Capps said to close his demo of the game is what might have Microsoft and Sony shaking in their boots. "This new device has more memory and higher screen resolution than an Xbox 360 or PS3," Capps said, according to Engadget.

This means that, thanks to the new iPad's beefier A5x processor, that the tablet could be more powerful than the two strongest game consoles currently on the market. Epic Games has extensive experience with the Xbox 360, so we imagine it would know the difference between the two. However, its exposure to Sony's console is uncertain.

Of course, this is purely a numbers game at this point, since the iPad is still far more expensive than both consoles. Mobile games will only continue to power up (and hopefully power down in hardware prices), and console makers better think of something. Quick.
