Ternium (NYS: TX) reported earnings on Feb. 22. Here are the numbers you need to know.

The 10-second takeaway
For the quarter ended Dec. 31 (Q4), Ternium beat slightly on revenues and whiffed on earnings per share.

Compared with the prior-year quarter, revenue grew and GAAP earnings per share increased significantly.

Margins grew across the board.

Ternium booked revenue of $2.20 billion. The five analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ expected sales of $2.16 billion on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were 14% higher than the prior-year quarter's $1.93 billion.

EPS details
EPS came in at $0.53. The four earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $0.65 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.53 for Q4 were 36% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.39 per share.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 20.8%, 460 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 12.4%, 490 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 4.8%, 80 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $2.23 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.72.

Next year's average estimate for revenue is $9.15 billion. The average EPS estimate is $3.20.

Investor sentiment
