Golf Course Estate Leaves Trump in the Rough

Before you go, we thought you'd like these...

In what must be a big ouch-in-the-wallet and maybe a little crow-eating, Donald Trump's golf course estate in Rancho Palos Verdes just sold for $7.15 million. The mansion had been listed a year ago at $12 million. So much for expectations, even ones held by a big real estate mogul like Trump.

Trump built the 11,000-square-foot Mediterranean mansion as part of the 18-hole Trump National Golf Course, which he owns and operates. He developed six homes and meant to keep the best for himself -- this one -- but opted last year to sell it instead. He is based in New York and also has a home in Beverly Hills.

But to get real here, the star of "The Apprentice" never exactly endeared himself to the Rancho Palos Verdes community anyway. Battles between The Man and his neighbors began early on. His efforts to name a street after himself was just the beginning. At one point, Trump sued the town for $100 million because it kept getting in the way of his being able to maintain "the Trump image." A civil rights violation for sure.

As we wrote when the house first came on the market, "There are some communities where even standing on stacks of money doesn't make you tall enough to walk through the guard gate." This is one of those communities.

The five-bedroom, nine-bathroom home he sold has a 1,000-square-foot kitchen, marble floors and sliding glass walls. It also has a bar that is a replica of the one in the golf course restaurant. The master bedroom suite has a patio and fire pit and there is an infinity pool.

We're just wondering if he found a buyer to pay him in gold bars.

Linda D'Ambrosi and Sandra Callen, both of Keller Williams, Rancho Palos Verdes, shared the listing.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this post called the home the centerpiece of the development. D'Ambrosi said it is not, and that Trump never lived here.
