10 Recession-Proof Jobs That Are Hot Right Now [Infographic]
Very few industries seem to be hiring in this economy, beyond the much-hyped tech sector. However, there are careers -- many of them that pay well -- that are expected to grow by leaps and bounds in the next few years.
Not surprisingly, many of the 10 jobs highlighted in the graphic below involve health care or personal care. As Americans become more concerned about their health and appearance, occupations for those who can help them feel and look better are on the rise.
Those include jobs for skin care specialists, who work in spas and medical offices providing treatments that give patients a healthier appearance. The field is expected to grow by 34 percent through 2016 and median pay is about $30,000 a year.
For those more concerned about their patients' inner beauty, another growing field is mental health counseling, where jobs are expected to grow 30 percent during the next five years. These professionals help people navigate life's pitfalls and can provide invaluable treatment to those with more serious diagnoses, such as depression and trauma. The current median salary among mental health counselors is nearly $38,000 a year.
Careers that involve providing services to people, however, aren't the only lucrative fields. Pets, too, need health services. The number of veterinarians is expected to grow by 28 percent in the coming years. Moreover, with a median salary of $81,500 a year, being a vet can be rewarding both personally and financially.
There are more opportunities, of course. For other recession-proof careers, see all 10 Hot Careers:
