With Captain Trapped In Bathroom, Finnish Ferry Runs Aground
It's not unusual for a boat to run aground, but it's rather rare for it to happen while its captain is banging on the wrong the side of a locked bathroom door.
But in Finland, that appears to be what happened Friday, after a Finish ferry boat slammed into a rock near the Helsinki shore, Reuters reports.
The boat was carrying 54 passengers when it ran aground, some of whom were bruised in the collision.
The captain became trapped in the bathroom because of a jammed lock and yelled for help, but couldn't get out in time, according to the coast guard.
Whether the captain's situation rises to the level of criminal endangerment on his part is yet to be determined.
"He was stuck in the toilet," chief investigator Jan Sandell told the news agency. "As soon as the staff member got the door open, it was too late."
