Your Bad Boss Might Be Worth Something After All: Prizes!
At last! You can finally get something in return for all that abuse you suffered under a truly spurious superior. The "My Bad Boss Contest" is now open, and it could award you a seven-day vacation and $1,000 to spend on it. All you need is a winning evil employer story!
WorkingAmerica.org, the community affiliate of the AFL-CIO that says it "combines the strength of millions of working men and women across the country," is promoting "good jobs and an economy that works for everyone." They're looking for the worst of the worst, when it comes to bosses. So far, there are stories about almost everything: from a person who got fired for wasting paper to a boss who locked the ladies room because he said his female employees were spending too much time in there.
According to the instructions, you shouldn't use your real name, or that of your boss or company, for legal reasons. You'll have several chances to win: There are weekly winners, who receive a "Bad Boss Survival Kit" consisting of a DVD with a bad boss theme; the album "Union Town" by Tom Morello (aka The Nightwatchman); a "We Are One" button; a Working America T-shirt; as well as a "Know Your Rights in the Workplace" flyer, "Ten Tips for Dealing With Bad Bosses," and a guide to forming a workplace union from Working America;
With a little more luck, you may win one of three Grand Prizes, which include a seven-night stay in a vacation condo of your choice within the Trading Places International network, and $1,000 to get you there and help you enjoy your stay. After all that suffering, you deserve a vacation.
To enter, all you have to do is fill out a basic entry form with contact information, and write a little piece about your current or bad boss from the past. Entries should be 500 words or less, but remember, short and sweet and punchy usually have a better chance. Don't get bogged down in specific details. Their editorial team will edit and post the stories. There are also a number of voting periods, when your friends could help you win a People's Choice prize. Rules can be found on the website.
Don't wait too long, however. Winners will be decided in August.
