House of the Day: A Tony Townhome in Greenwich Village

Before you go, we thought you'd like these...
Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick almost lived here. What else could you possibly need to know about this East 10th Street townhouse, listed at $14.9 million?

The 8,475-square-foot five-story townhouse is currently being used by The Pen and Brush for exhibition and performance space. The property may be used as a single-family residence or for mixed use.

Parker and Broderick had it under contract for 14 months before deciding to instead buy a smaller townhouse two doors away. Just plain fickle, we guess. The 25-foot-wide townhouse was originally built in 1848, making it seriously pre-war, we'd say. It has 14-foot ceilings, parquet floors, elaborate crown moldings, rounded archways, an original staircase and 11 marble fireplaces. And it's located on one of the Village's prettiest tree-lined streets.

The listing brokers are Patrick Gavin and Robert Haberman of Prudential Douglas Elliman.
