This is where Capetonians come to shake off the shackles of their working day. It doesn’t take long. It’s not all sitting around sipping a cool one, though; while bat and ball is happening on shore, surfs-up off shore. Simple pleasures here: Sink a couple of beers and watch the paddle surfers glide across the bay.

Scotland’s moody skies and atmospheric landscapes have long been the inspiration for artists and poets around the world. A few miles beyond Dunvegan Castle on the Isle of Skye, head to the pink powder shores of Coral Beach – the stillness of the location is balm for the soul.

When To See It: July – August

Oft known for a topsy-turvy version of ‘waking hours’, if ever there was a place to experience those fleeting moments where day and night swap places, it's Ibiza. Start at sun-set, finish at sunrise. We love Benirras, the picturesque little bay with its distinctive rock formation attracts hosts of yachts for the end of the day. Drummers descend to bid farewell to the sun, and the buzz builds for the coming evening’s shenanigans.

When To See It: June – October

The high point of the day on this bohemian, car-free island is definitely sunset. And where better to pull up a pew to watch the Big Yellow drop below the horizon than the aptly named Sunset Point. Salute the end of another day's sunbathing and diving with a nice cold beer. Tough times, huh?

When To See It: May – September

Jeri, as it’s known to the locals, has a stunning wide beach of fine gray sand which brings people in the know flocking to its Duna do Pôr-do-sol, or "Sunset Dune", as the light starts to fade. Bring a blanket and settle in; the unhurried pace here perfectly fits the languid changing of colors in the sky.

When To See It: January - May, September – December

The jewel of San Diego, it’s no surprise that La Jolla draws the crowds in. Gorgeous beach, great surf and fine restaurants dotted along the coast, it’s simply hard not to resist. The sunset is one of the most peaceful, romantic sunsets we’ve seen to date.

Strung out along Panama’s Caribbean coast, the San Blas Archipelago is made up of nearly 400 beautiful islands. It's just a 20 minute flight from Panama City, yet beach hopping here feels like centuries have past and way of life is more  laid-back and traditional. Coral-fringed Yandup is our pick of islands for sunset spots. After a swim between the islands, when visitors plop down on the sand at the end of the day, they'll feel they earned their sunset moment.

When To See It: December – April

A whopping 124 miles north of WA’s Broome, Cape Leveque, on a remote part of the peninsula, is well and truly off the beaten track. Witness the illuminating effect of sunset on the beach’s red sand cliffs – it's an absolutely beautiful, authentic Aussie rite of passage.
