Mr. Fante's Game of Judgement, which launched today on Facebook, takes a note from the classic website Hot or Not -- letting you exercise your powers of judgment on random people's FB profile pics. But, instead of determining whether the lineup of people are attractive, this game has you judge a people on a series of things from the tasteless -- whether they're single or not -- to the downright homophobic -- whether they're straight or not. Later on, you'll also be able to guess whether people are older or younger and, probably the most interesting of the lot, whether people are like you (or not).

spot the straightAs a general rule, I'm not above judging other people -- whether it's people on the NYC subways, ridiculous politicians etc etc. In fact, I've been eeking out a living as a professional judge-r for years. So you'd think something like Mr. Fante's Game would be totally up my alley. But - the idea of trying to determine whether someone is gay or not based on a picture -- just sends my political correctness alarm bells ringing. Is this really the type of thinking that a modern-day consumer product should encourage? It all seems a little Stone Age to me.

Mr. Fante's Game is, however, an interesting case study of mining public Facebook information and turning it into a game of sorts. I'm looking forward to seeing companies like Zynga take more advantage of similar data (in a slightly nicer way) as they continue their quest to create more compelling social gaming experiences.

What do you think: Is Mr. Fante's Game of Judgement on Facebook totally tasteless? Sound off in the comments. Add comment.
