Now Hiring: McDonald's Hiring 50,000 New Employees In One Day

Before you go, we thought you'd like these...

McDonald's Hiring It may be time to start brushing up on that cliched phrase, "would you like fries with that?" McDonald's has pledged to hire 50,000 new employees, all in one day: April 19. That will immediately boost the employee headcount by 7 percent, from 650,000 to 700,000.

Most of these jobs will be slightly above the national minimum wage level ($7.25 per hour), averaging about $8.30 per hour, but that will go up in states where the minimum wage is higher.

McDonald's estimates it will be spending about $518 million extra on wages and salaries for those new employees, and this should be covered by its 2.7 percent sales increase over the same period last year.

There are some 14,000 McDonald's restaurants in the United States, and close to 90 percent of them are run by franchisees. The 50,000 new employees would average between three and four workers per restaurant.

McDonald's will be holding the hiring event on April 19, both at its individual restaurants and online via its career website. The website lists both food service and corporate jobs, and mentions flexible schedules and, in many cases, benefits, one of the assets of working for the burger behemoth. There are also scholarship and management-training programs available, in which it's possible to earn up to 46 credits toward a two- or four-year degree.

While it is possible to apply for one of these 50,000 new jobs online, it's preferable to do all your research and homework on the company's career website, and then go down to the McDonald's of your choice in person. A well-prepared applicant with a smile and a positive attitude is hard to resist.
