Possible U.K. Harry Potter Hotel?
What if visitors to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter, scheduled to open in the spring of 2012, could stay at a Harry Potter-themed hotel too?
Perhaps guests would have to be "sorted" into their "houses," or rooms at check-in; paintings might speak; and in the bathrooms, "potions" would be used instead of shampoo.
The attraction, located about 20 minutes outside of London at Leavesden Studios, will allow visitors to see authentic sets, costumes, animatronics and special effects used in the production of all eight Harry Potter movies where the films were shot.
The developer that sold the property to the Warner Bros., MEPC, has submitted a planning application for 425 homes and a 120-room hotel on the remaining portion of land it kept, according to Property Week.
MEPC director James Dipple says he hopes that the proximity of the studio complex will help to generate demand for vacant space in offices already built at Leavesden, as well as for the housing and hotel, reports the trade publication.
Fan favorites on the three-hour studio tour will no doubt be the Hogwarts Great Hall and Professor Dumbledore's office, where the Sword of Gryffindor and the Sorting Hat will be housed.
The Harry Potter movie series "had already achieved the distinction of being the top–grossing film franchise of all time, with a combined worldwide gross of $6.37 billion," Warner Bros.' parent TimeWarner said in a press release this week, reports USA Today.
