Carnival Cruise Lines Pulls Out of Mazatlan
Another violent episode in the popular cruise port of Mazatlan, Mexico, has prompted Carnival Cruise Lines to bypass the town indefinitely.

The shooting of two men in the parking lot of a hotel frequented by tourists in February is the cause. Though the two men shot were not tourists or cruise ship passengers, it's enough to worry the cruise line.
Disney Cruise Line and Norwegian Cruise Line also earlier said they had decided to skip the port for the rest of the season.
Carnival said in a statement to AOL Travel News that "Due to recent security incidents in Mazatlan, we have decided as a precautionary measure to cancel our current calls there on the Carnival Splendor and Carnival Spirit."
A spokesperson said that until the company is "comfortable" with the Mexican government and local officials' plans and implementation to improve security in all of the main tourist areas, its ships will not return.
For now, Carnival Splendor, which sails from Long Beach, Calif., will replace stops in Mazatlan with an additional visit to Cabo San Lucas. Carnival Spirit, based in San Diego, will replace Mazatlán and Ensenada with visits to Cabo San Lucas and Manzanillo.
Almost since the beginning of the year, cruise lines have had an on-again, off-again relationship with the Mexican city.
In early February, cruise ships that had been bypassing Mazatlan, including Carnival and Norwegian, because of concerns over violence in Jan., had returned to the port after the city increased security at the cruise terminal, in tourist areas and excursion sites.
Several lines canceled port calls in January after three reported robberies involving passengers or crew and the shooting of a Canadian tourist, only to return in early February after the city increased security at the cruise terminal, in tourist areas and excursion sites.
