Ravenstone MineRavenwood Fair by LOLapps and Doom creator John Romero has overcome adversity and experienced explosive growth in the past few months since its release. The game now boasts 10 million monthly players and its developer has launched an expansion to the game called Ravenstone Mine, VentureBeat reports. In this new Raven-themed adventure, players will journey deep into the mines beneath Ravenwood and harvest minerals and gemstones to be used between both games.

You will have access to new critter friends, new machines and will have to protect your mine against underworld monsters. According to LOLapps CEO Arjun Sethi, the things you have achieved in Ravenwood Fair will carry over to Ravenstone Mine and vise versa. I've yet to see the new game on Facebook, but as you can see from the infographic below, the art style hasn't changed much. (But if that isn't Robo at the bottom, I dunno what is.)

It might seem strange for a social game to receive an expansion pack, but Zynga seems keen on the idea as well with the upcoming English Countryside expansion in FarmVille. Traditional gamers will immediately think of games like World of WarCraft, Everquest and Guild Wars when they hear the words "expansion pack."

This is because most MMO developers employ this model to both bring in more players and give their existing ones more things to do. And since many Facebook games are starting to look like free-to-play MMOs in a browser, it makes sense for companies like Zynga and LOLapps to give this method a shot. You know what, it just might work.
