After being lost for several hours over the weekend at the hands of Delta Air Lines, a puppy was reuinited with her new family in New York.

Joe DiTomaso of Queens bought the puppy, named Blue, from a man in Alabama. After making arrangements for Delta to bring the dog back home, DiTomaso arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport to find his new puppy had gone missing.

"Every person we spoke with, they couldn't find her. It was unbelievable," DiTomaso tells a local television station.

DiTomaso waited at the airport from 8 p.m. Friday night until 2 a.m. Saturday morning, fearing the worst.

"I was really worried that someone either took her, or she was hanging out on a carousel somewhere and nobody was feeding her," he says.

Finally, Delta called the DiTomaso family letting them know the good news: Blue was in Atlanta, and she was safe.

A Delta spokesperson apologized for the delay, but did not explain what caused the mix-up.

Late last year, an army family's German Shepherd-mix escaped from a crate about to board a Delta plane. The dog was later found dead after it had been hit by a car outside of the airport.
