Steelcase Recalls Some Swivel Chairs Because They Can Break
The Grand Rapids, Mich. company got one report of the support failing, causing a back injury, CPSC said.The recall affects all Steelcase Cachet Swivel Chairs with model number 487, made between May 2002 and Oct. 15, 2009. The chairs have a plastic slotted seat and back, and some had cushions.
The model number and manufacture dates are printed on a label on the chair base's bottom. The chairs were sold online and at Steelcase dealers and retailers nationwide, including Healthy Back Store, CSN, Home Office Solutions, Office & Co. and Sam Flax stores between May 2002 and November 2009. Prices ran to $600.
Consumers should check the chairs for cracks and if they find them, stop using them and contact Steelcase for a replacement. If the chair doesn't have cracks, contact Steelcase for replacement chair supports and check for cracks from time to time until the chair supports are replaced.
