textbook rentalHere's a hot way to launch a website -- with freebies. In the case of Neebo.com, a textbook rental and college-gear seller, the freebie is 100,000 textbook rentals.

The catch: You pay for shipping. (To rent a basic biology textbook, 3-to-7-day shipping costs $8, second-day air costs $14 and next-day is $21. Return shipping is included.)To get the freebie:
  1. "Like" Neebo's Facebook fan page, then search for that textbook you're oh-so-interested in reading.
  2. Once you find it, click on the "check on stock" button, which should then change to read "rent for free."
  3. Fill out your billing and shipping info, plus share your school and estimated date of graduation.

The free rental is only for the term and must be returned by May 20, 2011. If you keep it longer, you'll pay fees. One free rental per person.

Neebo says 10,000 of the freebies already are claimed, but with 90,000 more to go, your chance of getting in on the action is good. If you want to rent again through Neebo, you'll get 10% off.

Buying used textbooks saves 25%, but renting saves 55%, the site estimates. Why not use Neebo and save 100%?

Other caveats: The free rental giveaway ends Jan. 31, 2011, or when the freebies run out. Make sure to read the rental contract carefully to avoid paying a fee on a late return. You must be at least 18 to get a free textbook rental.
