Who Should Get Regis's Job?
While late night talk show hosts joke that Regis Philbin is retiring from 'Live with Regis and Kelly' in order to spend more time with his money, there's no doubt that he's vacating what has to be one of the greatest jobs in America -- for the right person.
His successor will have to be quick on his feet, a good interviewer, indisputably cheerful, funny, and enjoy living in New York. He (or she) will also have to be interested in making millions annually -- not just from hosting the show five days a week, but from the product endorsements that will inevitably follow. Oh yes, and there's the fame; Regis's successor will have to endure being recognized and fawned over throughout America.
The Hollywood Reporter contacted three media pundits, their own chief TV critic Tim Goodman, MediaWeek's Marc Berman, and Jerry Springer, to find out who they think would do the job best.
They came up with the following suggestions, and we added a few of our own. Who do you think would best fill Regis's shoes? Got any other suggestions? Feel free to weigh in.
