Flights to Tahiti
If you're planning on catching a flight to the French Polynesian island of Tahiti, then you're likely looking for sun, serenity, and smiles. You'll find them all when you get there, but the getting there can be tricky. Today AOL Travel offers a few tips to make finding flights to Tahiti low on stress and easy on the pocketbook.
Booking your flight to Tahiti
There are several airlines that offer flights to Tahiti's Faa'a International Airport near the town of Papeete. From the United States city of Los Angeles, Air France and Air Tahiti Nui fly to Tahiti. Hawaiian Airlines also flies to Tahiti from the U.S. city of Honolulu. Flights to Tahiti are also available out of Australia, Chile, France, Japan, New Caledonia, and New Zealand.
As I mentioned in my top five tips to planning your Tahiti vacation, you're going to want to begin your search for flights to Tahiti with a lot of flexibility in mind. Unless budget isn't an issue, you can save yourself money by looking over available flights over any 30-day period. For example, let's go to the flexible date search of Orbitz.com, enter in your starting city and a destination of Papeete (PPT). Choose option three, "Flexible Stays," and enter a length of stay. Then choose a starting date and ending date, leaving 30 days between the two. Choose the number of travelers and then click "Find."
You should be presented with a grid of departures and returns for the entire period of time you selected. You'll notice a lot of price fluctuation among the flights. Note that the top of the grid is divided into the number of nights you want to stay. Look through the grid and find a price and length of stay that works best for you. The more flexible you are with your travel dates, the more money you'll save on air travel to Tahiti. Hotwire.com has a similar tool.
Planning for your Tahiti flight
Flights to Tahiti can be quite long. Travel between Tahiti and Los Angeles (the major hub for people bound for Tahiti) can last eight or more hours. After adding in additional flight time to get to Los Angeles, it will be relatively easy to get bored and restless. If you bring electronic devices like MP3 players, notebooks, or tablets, ensure that they are fully charged before you leave.
Be sure to pack a pullover to wear during the air-conditioned flight; you may get cool. Stay hydrated before and during your flight to minimize problems with jet lag and to help blood circulation. Getting up out of your seat and stretching occasionally is also good for circulation. Most important, remember that air travel to Tahiti doesn't have to be something you dread. Your journey to gorgeous Tahiti can be just as fun as the time you spend there with just a little extra planning!
