One of the most popular beach towns on the east coast, Myrtle Beach, is no stranger to adventure activities. During the late spring and summer, you'll find Myrtle Beach bustling with energy as families take to the beaches and streets of the city for the many activities the hotspot has to offer. Choose an adventure activity in Myrtle Beach. Go ahead, we dare you to try!

1. Safari Jeep Tour

On a gloomy day, or if you just need a break from the water, head over to Carolina Safari Jeep Tours for one of the best Myrtle Beach outdoor activities. Although you probably typically associate safari Jeep trips with Africa, Myrtle Beach offers its own version of the experience. Guests go off the beaten path of the commercial streets to see the sights of the area, which most tourists never experience. Highlights of the tour include driving through rice fields, down oak alleys to former plantation homes, and past barrier island homes. Of course, no safari tour is complete without its share of wildlife, and this one doesn't disappoint. Some of the wildlife you may see include alligator, deer and a plethora of bird species.

2. Scuba Diving

Although known as a family beach destination, with its towering resorts and beachfront bars and restaurants, Myrtle Beach often gets overlooked as one of the best scuba diving locations on the east coast. This area has long been an important destination for ships, dating back a couple hundred years. Just off the shores of Myrtle Beach, scuba divers can find everything from Civil War artillery to fishing boats to exotic marine life. Little River Fishing Fleet takes guests on unique shipwreck scuba diving trips right off the busy shores of the Grand Strand. Things divers may see include, but are not limited to, Civil War artifacts, barracudas, barges, sea turtles and shipwrecked boats. Trips, especially for the summer, fill up fast, so call months in advance to ensure a spot to enjoy this adventure activity in Myrtle Beach.

3. Hobie Wave

Unfamiliar to most people, Hobie Wave is a different kind of sailing on the open water. Not requiring the same expertise as typical sailing, Hobie Wave is for the person who wants the thrill of sailing without the expense and training involved with it. The Hobie Wave is versatile enough that you can enjoy it on your Myrtle Beach adventure vacation by yourself or with the entire family, as it is kid-friendly. Unlike sailing, the Hobie Wave boat has a small, ergonomic design so that travelers can take off and easily come back from the shore. Downwind Watersports is one of the main providers of Hobie Wave boats, which can be rented for about $40 an hour.

4. UTV Riding

When people think of Myrtle Beach, they think of high-rise hotels and sandy beaches – nothing in the ballpark of off-road trail riding. However, just off the shores, you'll find plenty of trails that are great for renting a UTV and exploring. Although many of these go off the beaches, some rental companies offer UTVs that go along the beach. Inlet Point Plantation, for example, offers rides that take visitors through the swampy marshes and around the dunes of Waites Island. Take a full-day excursion, which can include racing up and down the shore, along with fishing and sunbathing on the beach. Three and six-person UTVs are available for rental and can be driven from one to eight hours.
