Expect to pay more to get to grandmother's house for Thanksgiving this year.

The average domestic airfare for the holiday is $384, which is about a 10 percent increase over last year, according to an analysis by online agency Travelocity, for USA Today.

Travelers could end up paying as much $554 for the average ticket if they fly on the popular Tuesday before Thanksgiving and return on Sunday, Travelocity finds.

But there are also lower fares if you shift travel dates by a day or two. For those flying out Thanksgiving Day and returning the following Tuesday, the average fare reduces to $293.

Advance planning will also help with savings.

"There's going to be a lot of competition for those lowest-priced seats, so it's important that people (book) as far ahead as possible and be as flexible as possible to get a decent fare," says Genevieve Shaw Brown, Travelocity's senior editor.

Thanksgiving fares last year were unusually low due in large part to the economic downturn. Experts say don't expect similar deals this year.
