An American Airlines worker has been charged with stealing thousands of dollars worth of items passengers left on planes rather than turning them over to Lost and Found.

Police say they found a cell phone, cameras, sunglasses, iPods and more in the home of Henry Ibarra in Fort Worth. They believe the belongings were lost by passengers on American flights.

Ibarra, 59, worked as a cleaner of planes for the carrier at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

He was caught when police traced the cell phone to his home.

An airport spokesman says the items were worth more than $7,500. Officials are trying to find the owners.

American says it worked closely with police in the matter and has fired Ibarra, who had been with the airline for 41 years.
