Toro snow blower recall: Could catch fireFollowing thousands of complaints, Toro issued a recall for nearly 40,000 snow blowers because of fuel leaks that could start fires, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada said.

The Power Clear 180 Single Stage Snow Blowers were sold by Toro dealers and at Home Depot stores between November 2009 and May 2010 for $400 to $440. They have model numbers 38272 and 28282 and serial numbers from 310000001 to 310999999.

The CPSC said ethanol found in gasoline can corrode the carburetor needle, which can then get stuck open and allow fuel to leak. Toro told the CPSC that it had received 2,200 reports of leaks. None caused a fire or an injury, the CPSC said.

Companies are typically required to report to the government after receiving a single report of an incident that could pose a risk of serious injury or death to consumers.

If you have one of the American-made snow blowers, you are urged to contact a Toro service dealer for a free repair. For more information, call Toro weekdays between 8:30 and 7 p.m. Eastern Time at (877) 738-4440.
