For those who love a good laugh, Carnival Cruise Lines is introducing dedicated comedy clubs fleetwide.

Officials said the Carnival Punchliner Comedy Clubs, lounges dedicated to comedy, would be on all 22 of the line's ships by the end of the year.

The first such club debuted on the Carnival Dream last fall and has been a "tremendous success," Carnival said. The line says the new clubs will feature "a wide variety of side-splitting comics."

The clubs will be located in the aft lounge on each ship and offer five, 35-minute sets on multiple nights on each cruise, with two comedians performing each night. The early shows will be geared towards all ages, while the later performances will feature adult-oriented comedy.

Comedy shows, including late-night R-rated shows, have always been part of Carnival's entertainment lineup, but this is the first time they get a dedicated spot. In addition to Dream, clubs are already in place on the Carnival Glory, Carnival Pride and Carnival Sensation.

The line's other "Fun Ships" will get dedicated clubs in coming months. When the new Carnival Magic enters service in May 2011, a Punchliner Comedy Club will also be featured on that ship.

In converting the aft lounges, Carnival said it is adding a special stage and branded glassware, menus, employee uniforms and other items featuring a Punchliner Comedy Club logo.

The line said performers will range from established comedians to rising stars, with 10 shows on short cruises and 20 on weeklong cruises.

"Laughter is the most public, most infectious expression of fun, so we're excited to provide our guests with an expanded offering in comedy with our new Punchliner Comedy Clubs," said Gerry Cahill, Carnival president and CEO.

Other lines have also played up their comedy connections of late, most recently with Norwegian Cruise Line debuting a dedicated comedy club, Headliners, for The Second City improvisational comedy troupe on the new Norwegian Epic.
