living in small space ace of spaceSome of our favorite design blogs have been summer-obsessed this week, digging up chic mobile planters, finding the coolest campsite-inspired decor, and bringing beachside flair inside. Here's a roundup of ideas sure to transform your apartment into a private respite from the season's concert crowds and sticky humidity.

Design Sponge
alerts us to an incredible room makeover, one that turned a cramped basement into a beachy hideaway. From the pillowed ceiling, to the white walls and elegant photo display, this room is proof that color and accessories can reinvent any space, no matter how small.

Here are more great design ideas....

April and May Studio found cool, minimalist-chic reading tables that double as magazine racks. The space-savers are made by German designer Uli Budde, and are available in red or white, and in various sizes.

San Francisco Bay Girl, who's prepping for a vacation herself, clearly had relaxation in mind when putting together her latest dreamy post. Titled "a month by the lake," it features vintage, campsite-inspired items -- yes, there is wicker -- that bring the outdoors in. Nothing says summertime laziness quite like a well-worn folding chair, after all.

Happy Mundane
supports green thumbs and would-be urban gardeners with a post on mobile gardens from French company Bacsac. The planters are no-nonsense yet chic, and made of permeable geotextile that allows soil and roots to breathe. Most importantly, the pots have straps that tie easily to railings and balconies.

Finally, Apartment Diet reveals how to use exposed brick to your advantage by leaving it unadorned. Simply allowing the brick to offset a pristine white wall and black and white photography makes a bold statement despite limited space.
