Former Secretary of State James Baker Headlines World Leaders Cruise

Those looking for cruising will intellectual purpose will want to check out the World Leaders Symposium to be held on the ultra luxury ship Silver Wind, cruising in the Persian Gulf. Headlining the cruise is former Secretary of State James Baker, III.

Baker will be joined on the Dec. 29 to Jan. 12 sailing, by former Egyptian first lady Jehan Sadat, veteran journalist Bill Moyers and a team of leading figures in Middle East politics, culture, history, religion, journalism and human rights.

The cruise on the 298-passenger ship is from Amman, Jordon, to Dubai, U.A.E., and includes a comprehensive educational program with specially arranged events and excursions in Jordan, U.A.E, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Optional trip extensions include a pre-cruise Christmas in Bethlehem and itineraries in Iran and Oman.

The trip was put together by San Francisco-based World Leaders Travel. During the cruise, symposium participants will be able to engage in discussions with the keynote speakers, but they'll also get to play tourist in the Middle East.

Among the highlights are a special New Year's Eve celebration on the shore of the Dead Sea; a private visit to the Arab Organizations Headquarters Building in Kuwait; behind-the-scenes access at the Al Jazeera media complex in Qatar; and a meeting with Aramco executives during an excursion to the source of Saudi Arabia's oil wealth, the famous Well #7.

The same travel company is hosting a Post-Perestroika World cruise August 30 to September 15, with Condoleezza Rice and Mikhail Gorbachev, onboard the Silver Wind; and a East Asia World Leaders cruise in October 2011, headlined by Colin Powell, onboard the Silver Shadow.
