According to a number of news reports, the gun was discovered when the woman, Amber Robillard, 39, of Atlanta, walked through a security checkpoint. She had been scheduled to be a crew member on a Delta flight to Atlanta.
The woman was arrested and taken into custody, and the plane took off without her, according to The Associated Press.
An airport spokesman said she was being held at Marion County Jail in Indiana on charges of carrying a handgun without a permit and entering a controlled area with a weapon, both misdemeanors.
According to The Indianapolis Star newspaper, the gun was a semi-automatic 9mm Glock, fully loaded with 10 bullets, and including a holster. The newspaper says the gun was discovered in an interior pocket of Robillard's carry-on, when the bag was put through an x-ray machine at the airport.
