The World's Largest Resort Under Development in Egypt
Down in Egypt, something big is happening: what is being billed as the "World's Largest Resort Development" is being constructed on the banks of the Red Sea.
Sahl Hasheesh International Resort Community, WATG
Consisting of over 10,000 acres, the Sahl Hasheesh International Resort Community will practically be its own city. Over 5,800 hotel rooms and 1,900 apartments are to be completed in the next 18 months, and the ambitious plan also calls for an Old Town with internationally renowned shops and restaurants, two world-class golf courses, a marina, a water park, a business park, and a children's playground.
Nearly 20 hotel and residential developments are currently under construction in the all sea-view location, which when finished will comprise about 2/3 the size of Manhattan. The resort area is so huge there is even talk of a university within its limits.

Four hotels are already open -- the Old Palace Resort, Palm Beach Piazza, Premier Le Reve, and Pyramisa Beach Resort. A fifth will open in June. A pier, boardwalk, and arrival piazza are also open to the public.
The resort area is just 11 miles south of the Hurghada International Airport.
