The beaches are beautiful on this city island between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, and there's plenty to good shopping, nightlife and bars to keep you busy.

But buying a home in Miami Beach can get expensive fast. Multi-million dollar homes are common, and the average sold price in the popular area is $12.2 million. But deals can be found, especially if you set your sights on a condo or smaller home that will still put you at the center of the action. Here are three Miami Beach homes for sale for less than $1 million each.
Home #1: Oceanfront turnkey condo for $950,000


This one-bedroom, two-bath condo at 4391 Collins Ave., Unit #1414, has exactly what you want from a Miami Beach condo -- an oceanfront view and a beautiful swimming pool. It has 992 square feet and is fully furnished with a flatscreen TV, marble bathroom, computer with desk, furnished balcony, sleeper sofa in living room, kitchenware and linens.

The condo complex, called the Fountainebleau, has 22 oceanfront acres, 11 restaurants and nightclubs, 40,000-square-foot spa and several pools. You won't want, or need, to leave the property. Maintenance fees, which aren't listed, include a daily free breakfast in the owner's lounge. That might be enough to push you over into buying.

It's a great location in the middle of Miami Beach, and near Interstate 195 for an exit to Miami. If you're looking for a turnkey condo with great ocean views, this is it. Comparable homes in the area have sold for $357,000, although the average in this complex looks to be about $750,000.

4330 Meridian Ave., Miami Beach, FlaHome #2: House with a pool for $950,000


If a beachfront condo, on Collins Avenue isn't what you want, you can move a little inland on Miami Beach and still get to the beach -- it will just take a little longer.

But with this house at 4330 Meridian Ave. in the Nautilus neighborhood, you'll at least have a huge back yard pool to swim in, and plenty more room to live in than a condo offers. The three-bedroom,, three-bath house with a den has 2,830 square feet, offering more than enough room to stretch out in. The house is close to many stores on 41st Street.

Comparable homes in the neighborhood have sold for $945,000, putting this one within range.

Home #3: Huge lot with guest house for $945,000

3165 Prarie Ave., Miami Beach, Fla.South of home #2 is a great home in the Bayshore neighborhood for $945,000. The house at 3165 Prairie Ave. sits on a 14,000-square-foot lot and has a beautiful back yard. There's plenty of room to build a pool. It's actually two houses, with a three-bedroom, one-and-a-half bath home, and a one-bedroom, one-bath guest house.

The homes, built in 1935, have been restored with many of the original decorative features. The living room has cathedral ceilings and a decorative fireplace. The bedrooms have pine closets, the kitchen has new plumbing, and lush landscaping is everywhere.

Comparable homes in the neighborhood sell for $598,000.
