Musician/songwriter and Saturday Night Live band member Jared Scharff tells why he moved to the Upper West Side. While he does enjoy the quiet in his new area, he misses the East Village a bit, but hey, a deal's a deal. And there are those shorter lines at his favorite burger haunt. So its got that going for it.

Name, Age, Occupation: Jared Scharff, 30, Musician/Songwriter, Guitarist for the Saturday Night Live Band.

Abode: One-bedroom apartment

Neighborhood:Upper West Side, New York, N.Y.

How long have you lived in your neighborhood?
I've lived here for one year. I moved uptown because I got a sick deal on an apartment and couldn't pass it up. Prior to that, I lived in the East Village for about 8 years. I love it over there and definitely miss the area. There's nothing like it.
What do you like most about your neighborhood?

I like that it's relatively quiet at night. Not a lot of traffic going through that area at night and it's more relaxing than being in a popular night-life area like the Lower East Side.

Best kept secret in your neighborhood?
Is probably the Shake Shack. Although, it's not a secret to the people that live there, but the lines are half as long as the one in Madison Square Park so it's much easier to get some tasty food there.

What's your favorite thing to do on a Saturday Night in your neighborhood?
On Saturday Nights you can find me at my desk job as the guitarist with the Saturday Night Live Band on NBC.

Do you talk to your neighbors?
I almost went a year without seeing anyone on my floor in my building. Recently, I have spoken a tiny bit with them. When I lived in the East Village it was a much more communal experience and the people were all much younger. Here, there are families and grandparents in the building so it's not as social.

You recently won a prestigious songwriting award, does New York City influence your music?

The area I live in does not effect my music. It never has. What effects my music the most is the music I listen to. Typically, that's whatever bands I have searched out and Top 40 radio. So mostly friend suggestions and iTunes lists effect me the most.
