police"Oh shoot!" or perhaps stronger language was used when Kentucky deputy Charles Wright discovered that he'd be losing his job for accidentally locking himself in a jail cell and then trying to shoot his way out with his own gun.

All sorts of excuses were offered. It seems the former deputy has claustrophobia, and when he found himself imprisoned a bit of panic set in, so he used his gun to attempt to shoot off the lock.

Also, the jail cell was brand new and staffers weren't familiar yet with how everything worked. As a matter of fact, the deputy was reported to be just checking things out when the unfortunate incident occurred--on the first day the new $12.4 million Adair County Judicial Center had opened to the public after being under construction for more than a year.

The former deputy has agreed to pay for the damage he did to the cell. At least no one was hurt.
