Wild Ones: Five simple tips that will make you leader of the pack
Wild Ones, the Facebook game from Playdom, isn't the standard appointment-style click-fest, like FarmVille or Mafia Wars. Instead this turn-based shoot-em-up, reminiscent of the popular video game series Worms, stars a series of cartoon animals. Heavily armed cartoon animals. Their mission? To send opponents -- controlled by real-life players -- to animal heaven using any means necessary.
To get started in Wild Ones, visit the site and create your Dog (starting character with other animals unlocked at higher levels). The game will then walk you through a simple tutorial in which you launch missiles at one opponent. In the tutorial there's an unlimited supply of missiles, so don't be shy with that trigger finger.
Once the tutorial is complete, the game encourages giving the multi-player mode a try. In this mode, you'll face off against two-to three other real-life players in a battle to the death. For those of you who want to aim high, here's five tips that will take you from the bottom of the food change to the king the Wild Ones in no time.
Tip #1 Aim High: When using any weapon, it's a good idea to aim a little bit higher than the target. All of the weapons are based on projectiles, so the physics of the game plays a role on the course of your shot. Wind, gravity and distance can all affect your aim.
Tip #2 High Ground: Most games will eventually have an impending disaster strike, so it's important to stay on the high ground. Also, climbing higher makes it easier to pick off opponents running around below.
Tip #3 Do not pet the animals: Standing too close to your opponent is never a good idea. In this turn-based game, it will eventually be another player's turn, and that gives them more opportunity to put the hurt on you. Also, avoid being surrounded by enemies.
Tip #4 Focus Fire: Work together with other players to eliminate one person at a time. It may seem cruel (at first, anyway) but if reality TV shows taught us anything, it's an effective way to eliminate powerful enemies early, which increases your chances of being the last animal standing.
Tip #5: Play the bounce: Weapons such as the grenade and bee bomb bounce when they hit solid objects, so use that to your advantage. Just because your opponent is hiding beneath something, doesn't mean they're unreachable. Just bounce a bee hive (or similar item) into their hiding spot and listen to their cartoon screams.
