The company behind social network gaming hits like Mobsters 2 and Sorority Life announced late on Thursday that it had purchased two companies that specialize in social and iPhone games. The first of the two, Green Patch, is best known for its one million user strong (Lil) Farm Life, a game that competes with other social networking resource management games like FarmVille. Whereas, Trippert Labs has created Facebook apps such as Fighter Jets, Armada along with iPhone apps Zaptap, Blowfish and MobAir.

By acquiring the two companies, Playdom says that it will increase its Facebook monthly user base by nearly 30% and its potential to create new games by 25%. While terms of the acquisitions were not disclosed, more games are never a bad thing.

After the recent purchase of Playfish by Electronic Arts, analysts predicted that the social gaming sector's expected growth and earnings potential would start a buying spree by competitors. Given this week's news that Playdom had secured $43 million in funding, this may just be the start of its acquisition spree.
