Mafia Wars Cheats & Tips: Seven Easy Ways to Level Up Fast

Before you go, we thought you'd like these...
As much as Zynga's Mafia Wars has found its way into the everyday lives of Facebook fans, new users quickly discover that learning to play a game that lacks a manual or tutorial isn't easy. Armed with a mishmash of in-game hints, players do learn more about making better choices and how to make less mistakes.

One of the first things that we sought to do when playing Mafia Wars was to find better ways to level up our mafia. Why? Higher levels offer jobs that offer a higher return on energy, more loot, more competition and more money. So rather than detail all the factors that go into leveling, here are seven proven facts that will help you level up fast.

1 – Profile Points Equal Energy

Once you've earned enough experience to go up a level or when you've completed a job level, you'll have several Skill Points that you'll need to allocate to your Attack, Defense, Health, Energy and Stamina values. Adding more of those Skill Points to Energy means that when you'll be able to complete more jobs, which gives a greater level of return as you level up.

2 - Send / Receive Energy Packs
Send energy to your mafiaWant to make Mafia Wars a holiday for your mafia? Send them an Energy Pack. These nifty power-ups give them 125% of their total energy. So if they had a max of 100 Energy, an Energy Pack grants them 125 Energy Points. That extra 25% gets even better as you level up. Sure, you can only use a single energy pack every 23 hours so make sure that you give your growing mafia a pack every day and hopefully you'll get one in return (karma gets you nothing in the game).

3 – Fight, Fight, Fight

Once your energy has been depleted, the second best action for adding Experience Points is to fight fellow players. Rather than use Energy to gain experience, Fight uses Stamina Points. One Stamina Point is used up during each fight and if you win, you'll gain Experience Points and money. You'll also lose Health Points during battle, which limits how much fighting you can do (although, you can pay to heal your Health Points if you have the available funds). True, the investment in Health and Stamina for a smaller amount of Experience seems unbalanced, it will still give you a chance to earn points when you're out of energy.

4 – Choose high return jobs over smaller ones

Even for those who hate math, this one's painfully easy. Doing a job that requires 17 Energy but earns you 23 Experience Points is better than a job that costs 5 Energy but returns a pitiful 5 Experience. Our recommendation is to use up your energy with the job that will give you the most in return. Of course, if you've mastered that job, use the second best job in order to progress in the mastery of the job. Then with the remaining points, you can use them to complete jobs that take less energy.

5 – Choose to be a Maniac

When you start your Mafia Wars adventure, you're given the choice of three character types: Mogul, Maniac and Fearless. Moguls make more money and Fearless types generate more health but Maniacs generate 1 Energy Point every 3 minutes (vs. 5 minutes for the other types).

6 - Slowly Grow Mafia
Little mafias with big weapons can win against large mafias with little weapons. Protecting yourself and fighting tasks you with buying enough armor and weapons for every one of your mafia. Leave them weak and you might lose Experience Points. Build them up and you'll eventually reap the rewards.

7 - Buy Reward Points
Impatient? Well you can always take out your credit card and purchase hundreds of Reward Points. Then convert those points into Energy fill-ups and blast though as many level as your PayPal or credit card can take.
