Need a coffee table, desk, mirror or wall art? Take a look around your apartment and see what you can reinvent.

This year at the New York International Gift Fair, repurposed goods were everywhere. With more and more people jumping on the recycling bandwagon, and the recession making showy interiors passé, the budget-conscious among us are in luck. You can decorate your apartment with second-hand ingredients AND be in style.

Here are some ideas to get you started.

Looking for a light? This fun and colorful chandelier hung at the Two's Company booth and could easily be copied for a hip statement piece above the kitchen table.

Need a desk? Try putting an old door on top of two file cabinets.

Gotta have an unusual mirror? Take a look around and see what you can use for a frame. Here old tennis rackets and their cases were used. Or for something less kitschy, pick up an old frame at a thrift store and have a mirror put into it.

Desperate for a coffee table? Try some old crates with a piece of glass on top. Or, as is showing up everywhere, use an old shipping palette and put wheels underneath. Here's a tutorial.

For inspiration take a look at Olde Good Things, one of the largest architectural salvage businesses in the country. They make a living finding interesting pieces and reinventing them. And here's a collection of repurposed furniture from CoolHunting. Also, check out our post about tea-cup pendant lights.

Everything is fair game! See how creative you can be and send us the results.
