If you haven't seen the con live on the street corners of New York, you've seen it in endless movies and TV shows -- a sidewalk fast-talker challenges passers-by to wager that they can correctly identify the red card among the three laid out face-down. The old Three-card Monte game.

The dealer first shows his mark the face side of the three cards, often a red ace and two low black cards. He then manipulates them ever so slightly before placing them on the ground or table and challenging the watcher to find the ace. The mark, having kept his eyes locked on the money card, confidently points to it, only to find he was wrong.
