SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - A Chicago woman won a bid for a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom house -- for a whopping $1.75.

Joanne Smith, 30, was the top bidder on eBay for an abandoned home worth $39,996, according to Cyberhomes. She was one of eight bidders.

"I am going to try and sell it," Smith told the Mlive.com. "I don't have any plans to move to Saginaw. I don't have any plans of moving from (Chicago)."

Smith relocated from Miami about five years ago, and has never visited Saginaw. She's also never seen the property.

"The people who I bought the house from, they are not giving me any information about it," Smith told MLive.com.

"I know that the property is abandoned and that there are taxes owed on the house, but all I have is their e-mail."

In addition to the $1.75 it cost to win the auction, Smith will have to pay additional charges in back taxes and trash/weed clean-up that will total about $850. If she doesn't pay by March 31, 2009, the city will foreclose on the property, according to MLive.com.

"I was trying to go see it, but I am not gonna make a 300-mile trip if I can't go in the house and see inside," Smith said. "It could be haunted or something."
